The National Council of Alcohol and Drug Dependence Detroit s philosophy is that alcoholism and drug abuse is a treatable disease and a public health problem, and therefore is a public health concern. The council is a voluntary, nonprofit agency committed to improving community health by providing substance abuse prevention, education, training, treatment and advocacy for the Detroit metropolitan area. It offers outpatient treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, juvenile outreach treatment and substance abuse prevention programs. The National Council of Alcohol and Drug Dependence Detroit was established in 1946 and took its current name in 1961.
